Removal of shrubs from fallow haymeadows
Numerous butterflies depend on traditionally cultivated haymeadows full of many types of flowers. Many haymeadows in the region however, have not been used for years and hence have become increasingly overgrown with bushes. In order not to lose this habitat for the butterflies, over 3 hectares of land will be cleared of brush and prepared for regular mowing.
Optimization of maintenance
The goal is to sustain a land use mosaic that is as diverse as possible in order to create an area with ideal conditions for rare butterflies and plant species in the region. For this, a number of specific maintenance procedures are required.
In consultation with property owners, an ideal solution will be developed for each individual plot. The agreed support contracts shall comply with habitat requirements.
The practical feasibility as well as the success of the plant species used will be documented in a "best-practices guide".
Propagation and planting of characteristic haymeadow species
Depleated haymeadows and development areas shall be transformed as quickly as possible into a species-rich condition. 30 regional plant types will be harvested, cultivated and planted on the different plots to "jump-start" the meadows.
Special equipment for haymeadows
The partially very wet and delicate haymeadows cannot always be worked, to a certain extent, with customary equipment. In order to cultivate these areas gently and maintain them efficiently, the purchase of special mowing equipment is planned.
Additional protected areas in the region with meadows that are difficult to maintain are also at risk. The special mowing equipment can be used here as well.
