PROJECT GOALS

The ultimate goal of the "Untersberg Foreland" LIFE Project is the improvement of the existing habitat situation for the highly endangered Scarce Fritillary butterfly.

The implementation of a number of measures - in close cooperation with property owners - will preserve the diverse and extensively used haymeadow landscape at the foot of the Untersberg and will eliminate the current deficits.

But not only the Scarce Fritillary will profit from the planned actions! At the same time further endangered animals and plant species will be supported. Moreover, a piece of mankind's cultural homeland will be retained.

The project will be accompanied by an intensive public relations campaign in close cooperation with the Open-air Museum. The aim is to present the special features of the region to both the local population and to visitors, and enable close up experiences.
