THE SALZBURG OPEN-AIR MUSEUM

A special situation was created in the region with the opening of the Open-air museum in January of 1978 on approximately 50 hectares of land. The museum displays the rural agricultural and living traditions of the Salzburg region with typical buildings, farmsteads and outbuildings.

On the museum premises one can find many small and large meadow clearings. As a result of this traditional land use, haymeadows and rare butterfly species can still be partially preserved.

Within the framework of the LIFE Project, a number of measures have been implemented on the museum grounds. Many planned actions and measures will give visitors the possibility to experience the rare habitats and species that are unique to the area close up, and to learn about the the goals and measures of the LIFE-Project.
